A September 19th ceremony in Inglewood showcased the debut of the Shops at Hollywood Park, the retail core of the nearly 300-acre development centered on SoFi Stadium. The first phase of the retail project, which sits near the intersection of Prairie Avenue and Century Boulevard, includes space for 390,000 square feet of shops and restaurants. Announced tenants include the Cinépolis theater chain, Iconix Fitness, experiential venue Cosm, JD Sports, and Residency Arts Gallery.

In Henderson, Nev., some 16 miles southeast of Las Vegas, a joint venture is investing $30 million in redeveloping a former 100,000-square-foot, two-building office campus into an open-air retail center. And many could see this office-to-retail conversion as a bold move considering the retail industry has been facing its own set of challenges over the past decade. But the team behind the project is banking on local metrics and the fact that residents don’t have access to similar centers in the immediate area.

That demand has soared recently and, after years of muted construction and a purge of weak-performing properties, met a retail market with less available space. Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield has started construction on an all-new wing of luxury shops and destination eateries designed to further elevate the status of its flagship Westfield UTC property in University City. Thursday, the French firm announced the expansion project, which will introduce 50,000 square feet of space spread across two buildings with nine storefronts and two restaurants on the lot of the original Nordstrom box.
